INTRODUCTION

This research paper covers in detail information pertaining to this researchers ethnic group which is commonly called Mexican American; however it is referred to in this paper as American of Mexican descent, which is a literal translation from Spanish “descendencia Mexicana”. The history of Mexicans immigration to America, or the United States, is varied, as a great deal of Mexicans, were in what is now called the United States before it was annexed to the country. The other group of people from Mexico immigrated to the United States either legally or illegally, came for different reasons, however share in the experience of the life of an immigrant in the United States. This research paper offers information dealing with treatment of Mexican immigrants, and stresses that not every experience is the same, while some immigrants did face prejudice, and racism; there were others who did not.

PREJUDICE, RACISM, SEGREGATION

The current United States – Mexico border was defined in the 1800’s by both the Gadsden Purchase and the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo (Del Castillo, 2006), creating American citizens out of previously Mexican nationals. This annexation created citizens, and could not technically be called Immigration; however the writers’ ethnic group that was created is the focus of this research. The second group of individuals of immigrants of Mexican descent is also the current group, concerning Immigration to the United States.
Throughout the history of the authors ethnic groups’ presence in the United States, there have been various areas where this researchers ethnic group was treated unfairly, as well as faced racism segregation, and prejudice, not only from employers, and the communities, but from the government also.
