Euthanasia
We've all heard and read commentary on both sides of the abortion argument. One side says that abortion is wrong, no matter what. The other side says that it is up to each woman to choose what she does with her own body. Well, here is yet another two cents to add to the abortion debate.
Let me preface this by sharing a little bit of background information on myself. I am a mother of 3 girls. I have never had an abortion, but I know people who have. I am not a religious person, but I do believe in spirituality in general.
Based on that information, one could surmise that I could go either way on the topic of abortion, and that is exactly what I do. No, I'm not a fence-sitter and I certainly do not waffle in my opinion of abortion. I simply recognize that each situation used to determine whether abortion is okay needs to be considered separately. Whether abortion is right or wrong is not anywhere near being a black and white issue. It is largely grey.
For instance, if a woman uses abortion as a means of birth control, I would consider that wrong. Yes, she should have the ability to choose, but I fail to understand why she couldn't choose something a little less controversial, like condoms or tubal ligation. At some point, one has to take responsibility for their actions and make choices that don't add to the negative stigma that abortion already has attached to it.
On the other hand, and this is an argument used often to justify the need for abortion, if a woman is raped and gets pregnant as a result, she should most certainly have the right to choose abortion. There are so many reasons to choose abortion in this case. The most notable in my mind is the fact that the woman did not choose to have sex and become pregnant - the least she can do is choose whether she wants to remain pregnant.
