Events, Turning Point
Throughout history there have been many events that took place in which they changed lots of lives. These events could both good for some and bad for others. World War I and the Russian Revolution are two events that were major turning points and had a huge effect on the course of history.
World War I was a huge event that effected history and still today. World War I was caused by militarism, alliances, imperialism, and nationalism. Bismarck strengthened Germany’s military and made alliances with the Ottoman Empire, and Austria Hungary. He did this because England made alliances with France and Russia, which were both very powerful nations. The spark of the war was when a Serbian nationalist kills the future king of Austria Hungary, Franz Ferdinand. The world at the time was now divided with the Allies (Triple Entente) with France, Russia, England, Italy, and Japan and the Central Powers (Triple Alliance) with Germany, Ottoman Empire, and Austria Hungary. The effects of the war were very high casualties in which 8.5 million soldiers died and 21 million were wounded. The President at the time was Wilson and he made his 14 points in which it did not allow France and England to punish Germany. Then, the Treaty of Versailles blamed Germany for the war, made Germany lose land and colonies, Germany was forced to pay 33 billion dollars and they were forced to demilitarize their economy. Also the Austrian Hungarian Empire was broken up into many new nations and also the Ottoman Empire was broken up and controlled by France and Britain. In the end the war was a major turning point in the past and had a huge effect on the world.
