The waves moved up and down. A light breeze moved the white curtains into a dance of happiness. Susanne did not move at all. Her eyes focused, she fixated the movements of the water. Her slender arm rested on top of a book. After a while, someone approached the tent. Susanne could hear the steps. They were heavy and hasty. Disappointed, Susanne closed her eyes, emptying her mind of the visions she had of the visitor. For a few minutes everything was quiet and then her brother jumped in screaming and yelling at the top of his lungs. Susanne was so startled that she threw her book across the tent. "I hate family vacations," was her only reply as her little brother Justin danced away in the distance.
The moment she was dreading was slowly creeping around the corner. Her dad planned a private tour of the islands at ten o'clock in the morning and it was already nine thirty. Spending quality time with her family was the last thing she wanted to do and what was worse was that she had to be confined with them for the whole day on a tiny, little boat. "Come on love!" her dad shouted from the shore, "Don't want the fine captain leaving without you, now do you? Come on, hop two!" "Ugh! Why me? Why me?" was her only reply as she sluggishly walked to the boat where her father and brother were waiting for her. "Can my life possibly get any worse?"
It was at that moment that the captain of the ship climbed out of the hull. He was the scariest looking man she had ever seen. He had a limp, it seemed that one leg was shorter than the other. He had huge, thick glasses that showed off one glass eye and a very peculiar looking green eye. "Are ye ready to go lass?" Susanne afraid to speak just nodded her head to be safe. "Alrightye than!" the captain shouted. "I'd be the captain of this here boat. The names Captain Smoot. It be a pleasure ta meet ya." And at this he grabbed Susanne's hand and gave her a brisk shake.
