Fashion- Female Image and Individuality
Fashion, the image of woman has changed in the last 30 years. Through these decades the woman has become more powerful, independent and could express their individuality. The 60's truly broke through the traditional roles and what emerged were new subcultures in youth where their looks had changed drastically. Fashion was one way to express oneself. A person is able to express herself through the clothing that she/he wears. Through/during these occurrences, the look of the woman was completely changed. Rather than being constrained to one look, women were able to express themselves. They could be seen as individuals for who they really were. This sense of freedom led into the 70s and 80s where woman' rights had become stronger and the message crossed America. The 70s represented the "Me Decade" and the 80s promoted the career opportunities of women. Where women had begun to climb the corporate ladder. With the empowering of women comes the ability to become their real selves. It is a sense of individuality because they are not constrained from dressing a certain way, looking a certain way.
In the past three decades women's rights have changed drastically. Their roles as what it means to be a woman has changed. They have gained more strength and confidence and are able to break through the role of being a "traditional" woman. The 60s was an age of revolution in all aspects of society. There were changes in political views, music and of course fashion. Advertisements, as they had once been showing off the traditional female look, were beginning to advertise a sense of power that made the woman an individual and not just another body.
Because every person is different, we become individuals. Our thoughts, emotions and appearance are all unique in our own way. As Webster's Dictionary states individuality to be,
