Introduction
According to the Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionnary, identity is “the distinguishing character or personnality of an individual”, and femininity is “the quality or nature of the female sex”. However, these definitions remain very vague and complex because they involve many aspects. In this journal, we analyze some of the major aspects of feminine identity, namely: psychoanalytic aspect, sexual aspect, social aspect analyzing rights and the influence of media on women’s identity
We tackle the psychoanalytic aspect of feminine identity from the view of the feminist theory, as a theory representing women Thus, we can discover how the analysis that Freud provides for the characteristics of femininity has been interpreted differently according to different feminists. The a priori understanding of psychoanalysis gives the impression that femininity is less powerful than masculinity. Nevertheless, if look into this matter further, we can see that psychoanalysis is not attacking feminine identity but analyzing the factors that shape femininity in a negative way. The psychoanalytic interpretation of femininity refers a lot to sexuality and raises the question of the sexual aspect of femininity.
