Foreshadowing On A Good Man Is Hard To Find

"A Good Man is Hard to Find" by Flannery O'Connor is a short story that uses foreshadowing. Foreshadowing is a narrative device that hints at upcoming events and is used to create suspense. I found that when I first read the story, some of the hints O'Connor used did not leap out. After reading the story a second time, I found that much of the foreshadowing is shown through some of the character's attitudes and the setting.
In the opening sentence of the story, the reader right away learns that the grandmother does not want to go to Florida. Even though the reader does not know why, after reading it a second time, I realized that O'Connor was hinting that there may be a significant reason. The reader is informed that the grandmother wants to go to Tennessee. Throughout the whole story the grandmother bickers and complains and attempts to persuade the family to visit a state where she feels more comfortable and safe. The grandmother is the most influential character......
