Functions Of Management
Abstract
The basic fundamentals of Management are, planning, organizing, leading and controlling. These four fundamentals act much like a chain, each links that make the chain strong enabling the chain to do its job. Without one or the other of these four fundamentals managing would simply not work.
Planning
Proper planning determines the direction your department or organization is going over a selected period of time (McNamara, MBA, PhD., 1997). This time period could be in days, months, or years. Long term planning gives a strategic view of the direction your management skills will lead projects services and programs. Much of the panning in an organization is determined by leadership and size of the organization in which it operates (McNamara, MBA, PhD., 1997).
Organizing
A large part of a manager’s job is seeing that the organization meets its goals and objectives. The manager must maintain control over the way his or her organization operates at the same time mentoring, leading and directing the employees working under them. The key word to any to organizing is structure. Structure is given to your organizations objectives and communication network by the organizational values managers use. Most organizations are structured in divisions of processes or functions. Leading
Leading involves influence by one person over others. The success of an organization depends on leadership.
