The Future of Marketing
When we were asked the question, “What is the next era of marketing?” on the first day of class this semester our group could not come to a clear answer. Everyone is aware that marketing is out there, but we have never really thought about what it is exactly or that there even were different eras of it. Everything we own or want to do has been marketed to us in someway. For example, the clothes that we wear are in style and that’s why we wear them. Skinny jeans are a big trend for girls our age right now, but they do not look good on anyone who is not a size 1 or 2. Yet everyone wears them because they have been marketed to us in some way, and we have gotten sold on the idea that they are the pants we should be buying. Marketing is truly an art and it takes a lot of thought and creativity to come up with ways to connect with every ethnicity, every age group, and every person’s family unit and/or social situation at a budget that is affordable.
Now that we have been in class for two weeks and have a little bit better of an understanding what marketing actually is, it was clear that the next era would be the one of E-Business. In the last 10 years the internet has been ever changing, and is now almost a part of every person’s life in the United States, not to mention the rest of the world. It began as a way to share information across a huge spectrum, but today it has evolved into almost anything you need it to be. People sell, buy, promote, converse and everything else you can think of over the internet. It’s become truly a new high tech. form of instant gratification. The section of Contemporary Marketing that sparked our interest the most on E-Business being the next era of marketing was the section on converting needs to wants.
