The telecommunication industry is in a crisis right now, too many competitors and not enough customers. Companies popping up everyday, in this industry offering everything from Local to Long Distance phone service, with most of these companies being local businesses. With this extra competition Global Communications is seeing their market share dwindle along with their stock price.
So facing these new challenges, Global has decided to make some drastic changes within the company in order to better compete and to increase its market share. Once of which is outsourcing its call centers to India and Ireland they also plan on teaming with a satellite provider, so they can start offering TV programming and a wireless company, so they can start offering wireless internet. While outsourcing may not be the perfect answer to all their problems, it does give Global Communications an opportunity to expand globally.
“Outsourcing is predicted to become a $220 billion industry by 2010” (Bruce & Martz.JR, 2007 pg. 17), so Global is not the first company to see the benefits that it can carry. Has one person said about outsourcing “She said talent should be the sole criterion for employment, adding that it was "exciting" that the world was changing and that employing people globally meant the best people could work across the world.” (Justham) While they seem to have not looked into any other option to the financial problems other than outsourcing, GC seems to have a bright future ahead of them with globalization and new packages to offer consumers. GC still has a few conflicts at home to deal with first, mainly rebuilding the trust of its employees and mending the fence between them and the Technologies Workers Union.
