Feminism Reaction Paper

Feminism: the belief of political, social and economic equality of men and women. Not many people in today’s generation know the actual meaning of feminism. Feminism is the result of women fighting to gain equal rights. After watching the movie “I was a Teenage Feminist” I gained a lot of knowledge on what a feminist actually was. I heard perspectives and beliefs about feminism from an array of different men and women, which then showed me there is a mixture of diverse feminist. I am going to be putting together many different definitions that I gained from the movie and put them together to make one general definition. I am then going to discuss one point a women made as well as a point made by a man about feminism. Lastly I am going to be discussing if I believe feminism is good for the society as well as my reaction to the movie.
According to what I heard in the movie “I Was a Teenage Feminist”, I found that there are a variety of different types of feminist and many different definitions. The heart of the definition of feminism is that women and men shall be treated equally and share equal rights. Feminism is women having the right to make their own choices and have the freedom to do what they want and believe in and also be recognized for their hard work and contributions to society. A majority of the women that were interviewed in the movie did not know the actual meaning of feminism. A majority of the women thought feminist were lesbian and man haters. One woman that was interviewed stated that the word feminism “sounded like a word form the past”. This shows that feminism has died off since women have fought for and received equal rights. Another woman stated that feminists are “aggressive, demanding and not lady like.” I believe that all these definitions are stereotypical and incorrect.
