Business management methodology that includes all functions within an organization whose primary focus is to achieve high levels of customer satisfaction through an ongoing process of improvement within the organizations quality of all its activities, goods and services. (Burrill, et al. 1999)
Why is quality so important and how does it affect global business? Competitive strategy influences Quality in the global business community. Consumer’s increasing demand for the top quality products at lower prices keeps a number of businesses at bay. Business must attempt to meet these demands if they want to compete within the global business community. However, as described in Achieving Quality “the cost and demand advantages can be used to reduce price, which further expands demand and brings economies of scale.” (Burrill, et al. 1999) Organizations must stay abreast of new competitors within their market to ensure they do not become obsolete.
Total quality management was not always the top choice management style. During and post WWII new management styles were being explored.
