I’m a night-life person anymore. Ever since I enrolled at school, and starting my college career, many things have started to change; hanging out with a different crowd, different perceptions on life, and facing the inevitable fact of becoming an adult.
It’s a warm Thursday night. Summertime always seems to bring out the trouble inside everyone, especially with a mix of alcohol. One of my best friends just came of from Kent State. It’s about a 2.5 hour drive north of Columbus.
So, we decide to go over to a buddy’s house in Lancaster and hang out. Of course we all start drinking and talking about the typical stuff. Listening to music and watching the T.V. starts to become a bore after a few hours. We then come to the decision to head out to a local bar to play some pool, drink some more, and mingle with friends. After an hour it’s time to leave. I know it’s against the law to drink and drive. Many people look down on those who do this, but that doesn’t really enter my mind at the time. We’re having a good time; therefore you forget rules, laws and all other things that might interfere with the “good time.”
It’s just me and my friend in the car, disappearing down the road into town. We come to a stop sign, I glance at the clock. It’s about 2:30AM. I take off at a normal rate of speed, obeying the speed limit. There’s a light ahead and I get in the left turn lane and turn on my signal. The light starts to turn yellow. I feel I can make it so I just keep on going and turn left. I guess you can say I either didn’t make it, or was traveling rather too quickly because the state trooper stopped at the light decided to make a U-turn in the middle of the road to hunt me down.
