LIFE WITHOUT BRIDGET
This Story is dedicated to my two Friends Emily and Bridget Mitchell.
“Welcome to ‘This is your Life’”, these were the first words I heard before going onto national television and before I made a complete fool of myself. The Host Peter was introducing me to the audience and suddenly all I heard was a raw of applause; that was my cue to enter, my heart was beating at an incredible rate with 200 pairs of eyes staring straight into my soul and what seemed like a million florescent lights burning right into my eyes, I just wanted to run away but I couldn’t, so I did the next best thing; …. I fainted.
The next morning found me, lying in a hospital bed surrounded by bright happy flowers and get well soon cards; thankfully no one knew my secret, that I actually fainted on purpose (It’s a little party trick of mine, all I have to do is hold my breath). I examined one of the cards carefully; it was from Sabrina and Alex, my Mum and Dad, suddenly a slow smile spread across my face, I hadn’t heard from them in what seemed like for ever. The card read: ‘Our dearest Emily, it seems like you still love the attention don’t you! You’re all over the newspaper and television. Fantastic photos! I took the liberty of buying you today’s newspaper (look at page 5). Get well soon love you always xx mum and dad. I put down the card and as instructed turned to page 5.
There were at least 7 pictures of me falling and in bold ink it stated “Women fainted on national TV”. I buried myself in my arms to hide from the shame. I decided to build a bridge and get over it so I started to casually look at the other pages of the newspaper and there in front of me was a picture of Bridget, they found her….. Dead.
Suddenly I was five again, playing in my room with Bridget, mum walks in and said its time for bed but of coarse we didn’t listen, five minutes have gone by and she comes in again and tells me to go to my room I said goodnight and left, (I never would...
