I intend to pursue a career in Human Resource Management (HRM). I aspire to be a Human Resource manager, with specialization in Training and Development (T&D). In this role and   context, training focuses on learning the skills, knowledge, and attitudes required to initially perform a job or task or to improve upon the performance of a current job or task, while development activities concentrate on broadening the employee's horizons" (Nadler and Wiggs, 1986, p. 5).   To put it simply, training focuses on the current job, while development concentrates on providing activities to help employees expand their current knowledge and to allow for growth (Cherrington, 1995).   Human Resource Management (T&D) is therefore key to meeting an organization’s goals and objectives because it is concerned with the effectiveness of the organization’s key resource – its people.

Working in a large enterprise that employs a large number of personnel (more than a hundred), the Human Resource Manager (T&D) may report to the Director of Human Resources.   Particularly in an electronic manufacturing industry, where employees are the engine of growth, the Human Resource Manager (T&D) plays the important role that ensures the employees are not only competent but also effective in performing the tasks and functions that they are employed to do. Without continuous staff capacity – building, skills improvement and upgrading, the organization may lose its competitive edge or may well become obsolete in the ever changing business environment.

The main responsibility of HRM (T&D) therefore is to manage the human potential – individual’s capabilities, time and talents, in order to maximize the organizational effectiveness.   Hence the HRM (T&D) works to ensure that the employees are able to meet the needs and requirements of their roles in the organization so that the organization can achieve its business goals and objectives.   The HRM (T&D) is responsible for building the capacity of employees...
