Creating a Successful Team 2
Creating a Successful Team
Many organizations choose to create teams to work together on multiple types of tasks to bring a level of diverse creativity to the table. A team is a group of people who put collective effort and mutual cooperation into a project. The dynamics of a team are often unforeseen forces that occur between different people or groups. Team dynamics can strongly influence how a team reacts, behaves or performs, and the effects of team dynamics are often very complex (“Thoman,” 2000). One of the most important components of any team is conflict resolution, and how the team will plan ahead to prevent conflicts from surfacing.
To create a successful team, the foundation must be established. Teams are created with unique individuals who have different backgrounds, beliefs and views on life. The team is selected for experience, performance as well as what the individual may bring to the team. In order to create the foundation, these differences must be recognized and ground rules set in place to prevent conflict, confusion, and frustration. When the team discusses what motivates them, and what each team member expects from each other, this helps to establish a bond between the teammates.
A charter or mission statement is created to document that each teammate agrees to a set of ground rules for the group. A well written mission statement will include the task, deadline for project completion, the teammates involved, the skills of each individual, assignments of each member, how conflicts will be addressed, and a basic concept of how the meetings will run. A leader for the team should be decided on to ensure the team remains on
