Illegal Immigrants
Everyday hundreds of illegal immigrants cross the border into the U.S. everyday. Our nation is currently trying to develop plans to stop all of the immigrants at the border, the National Guard and other means or border patrol stake out day and night to stop them. Are these people really that much of a threat to society, or are they just trying to stay under the radar and make a living? Although every nation will always people that thrive to break the law, most of the illegal immigrants in this country get blamed for act that they have no real intention on committing.
Jennifer Ludden wrote in All Things Considered (May 10, 2006), “The United States admits nearly 1 million legal immigrants a year. Yet that's nowhere near the number of people who want to come. The vast majority of visas are for those joining family members. The system is so overwhelmed that families end up being divided for years while they wait for visas to become available. Legislation in the Senate aims to cut these wait times by letting in many more legal immigrants each year. But there's been virtually no debate on that measure, as Congress focuses on illegal immigrants.” (Jennifer Ludden, 2006). With that being said, it can’t be a bad reason for these people wanting to be with their families. The law also does not allow families once you petitioned for the visa and had been accepted, to visit back and forth. Therefore if a family is separated for the two to three years that the law states you might need to wait, there are the possibilities that it would take longer than two to three years. So now you have a family that has gone through all of the proper channels and still is forced to wait up to in some cases nine years to see that other half of their family. The country is worried about the economy and spending for the illegal immigrants, if the families were able to wait together in the United States for the visas to go through, then all of the money that they send back to the...
