The biggest technological change in this country and any for that matter has been the Internet. Whether you’re a stay at home mom or a traveling business man, you can both stay connected via the Internet. All you need is a device that connects to the internet and VOILA! You can both talk as if you were standing face to face. No longer do people have to wait for information to come out on the news. All they need to do is log into the internet and watch the news in real-time, from sites like CNN.COM or MSNBC.com. The Internet has changed the world of today and the world of the future.
The military was the first to bring the internet age to life. They wanted a group of computers to be able to communicate with another group of computers that were some distance away. The military group known as the “Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA)” along with a group from Stanford Research Institute came up with a system they called “ARPANET”. In 1969 they had successfully connected two separate nodes approximately 600 kilometers away. The first message was supposed to be “Login” but the system crashed as they typed the “g” so the first message seen was “lo”. From that point on ARPANET began to grow reaching a little over 1,000 hosts/computers in 1984. In 1982, TCP (Transfer Control Protocol) and IP (Internet Protocol) where formed. This was another way for systems/nodes to communicate. These protocols where called “Internet”. In 1990, ARPANET ceased to function and the “Internet” age was born. Today people use the Internet for personal and business purposes. It has made obtaining information easier and It has made communicating information easier. If someone needs anything at all, all they have to do is log into sites such as ebay.com or buy.com and search for anything they want to buy.
