I covered in my earlier reflection on m-commerce, the use of unauthorised internet access through unsecured WLAN home networks and the ease in which it is possible to access unsecured networks.   I decided that users such as myself are harmless (from a small acorn a giant oak tree grows) when compared to larger internet security threats such as hackers, Trojans and various other security breaches to companies and government organisations. These organisations and governments will face larger and more devastating consequences through a lack of security enabled systems than my neighbours will through my extra internet usage.

Being a home internet consumer I had not previously realised the extent that large organisations and national security centres suffered from security problems. I assumed, based on my lack of knowledge that they had extremely advanced security tools that were impenetrable. I have also found out that hackers are classified as Non-technical attackers and that they often pose by contacting a company or consumer for passwords or credit card information. After reading this in Turban et al (2006), I feel I have been put in a difficult position.

Currently at work, we have a situation where we have to genuinely contact customers who have placed an online purchase in order to obtain their credit card details. According to our I.T staff, there is a so-called glitch in our encryption tool for online orders, where we can only view part of the customers order and address details on the back of the website.
