He only had a few followers in his lifetime but that number has expanded to billions of followers now. Some argue that he never even existed or that he wasn’t really who he claimed to be. There is one book that is centuries old and is still commonly found today telling stories of this man. Nearly all of the accounts of this person’s life are referenced from this book. This well-known martyr is Jesus Christ. The cause he died for was us.
Christ was born around 4 B.C. in Bethlehem ("Jesus of Nazareth." Encyclopedia of World Biography. Detroit: Suzanne M. Bourgoin, 1998). Christians celebrate his birthday on December 25th every year making the holiday Christmas. Not much was said of Christ’s younger years. At the age of twelve his parents, Joseph and Mary, and himself were headed for the feast of Passover and he left his parents. They later found him in the Temple talking with scholarly men who claimed that Jesus had much wisdom (Jesus Christ. 24 Feb. 2008 ).
The next event in Christ’s life was not recorded until approximately eighteen years had passed. ("Jesus Christ." Funk and Wagnalls New Encyclopedia. 1984.) Throughout his life Christ performed many miracles. Views on Christ and these miracles vary in beliefs and cause for much doubt. The miracles he performed were such as: letting the blind see, healing incurable diseases, and performing exorcisms.
Christ called himself the Son of God, and would teach the word of God to his disciples and towns people. To show the power of God, he once took just a few loaves of bread and two fish and fed a whole crowd of people, and at the end they were all full (Jesus Christ. 24 Feb. 2008 ). Although many people during his time rejoiced in his teachings of God, many were against him and sought to tear down his power. Because of so many people being reluctant of his teachings, they rallied and took him to trial.
