Cultural Differences
Cultural differences are the most important aspect to consider. Working with people from other cultures can be a new experience for many people. It can be very rewarding and it can also have its challenges. Cultural differences include differences in language, time, currency and religion.
Languages
The first cultural difference, being viewed, is an important aspect that needs to be considered, the language. Spanish is the official language spoken in Argentina, although many people speak English, Italian, or other languages. In some areas, Spanish is spoken fluently, but in others you may find that the majority can speak English. If possible, choose an area that is recognised for speaking English. This will ensure that you are able to communicate successfully with the community, which makes it better for the business.
Time Differences
Now moving on, the next cultural difference is time. There is a substantial difference with time in Argentina, and this needs to be considered. Argentina is 14 hours behind Australian Eastern Standard Time. There is only one time zone in Argentina. In relevance to time, business trading hours are slightly different in Argentina but are not much different to Australian business trading hours. Private and government offices are open from 8.00am to 5.00pm or 9.00am to 6.00pm, Monday to Friday. Most shopping centres, department stores and supermarkets are open from 9.00am to 9.00pm, Monday to Sunday. Banks are open from 10.00am to 3.00pm, Monday to Friday. As Argentina is in the southern hemisphere, the seasons are the same as in Australia and the temperatures are in a similar range.
Currency
Currency is also a cultural difference. Argentina use Pesos. One Australian dollar is equal to 2.5 Pesos.
