There are several factors that influence the demand and supply for nurses. Some factors that can affect supply are the wages, benefits, the location (whether it is close or too far from their home). The pay is extremely important to people because that is the one reason people work. There are some that say they work a certain job because it is their passion; however, it all boils down to one important factor, the wages. Although the wages can be competitive and the benefits are good, it is odd how there are not that many people who are interested in this field, which seems to be the problem we are facing right now. Some factors that can affect the demand are the longer life expectancy and the health problems that come with it, a war, a sudden epidemic, or a growing population. Texas is right next to Mexico, so we have more of a flow of immigrants than another state, say Kentucky. Our population is constantly growing, so that calls for more nurses. Also, with the technological advances we have today, people can live much longer than others did before. However, old age comes with many health problems which also call for more nurses.
There are several factors that determine the nurse’s pay. These factors consist of the needs and capabilities of the community, education, what kind of work schedule they can offer, what type of training they have, their skills and experience, the location they live in, what they specialize in, the hospital bed size, and the position they are applying for.
