Over the last century gay and lesbian adoption has become a controversial issue in the United States of America.   There were an estimated 300,000 to 500,000 gay and lesbian biological parents in 1976. In 1990, an estimated six (6) to fourteen (14) million children have had gay or lesbian parents. It is estimated that approximately ten percent of the U.S. population or 25 million people are homosexual.   Between eight (8) and ten (10) million children are being raised in a gay and lesbian household (http://adoption.about.com/od/gaylesbian/a/ gayadopt.htm). So far only one state, Florida, totally bans gay adoption. Nine (9) states allow for openly gay and lesbian couples to adopt jointly, which are: California, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Vermont, Washington, Wisconsin as well as D.C. Florida's 1977 law is the only law in the nation that bans gays and lesbians from adopting children (http://adoption.about. com/od/gaylesbian/a/gayadopt.htm).
Based on the increasing amounts of homosexuality should homosexuals be given the same privilege of adopting as heterosexual couples?

In order to answer this question, I created a twelve (12) question survey (copy attached), which I distributed to one (100) hundred people and which I handed out outside of the North Miami Beach Library, Turnberry Plaza in Aventura, posted the survey on an online message board, and called different people from the yellow pages in order to complete the surveys.   Each person who filled out the survey was of mixed ethnicity and were of middle to high class
individuals.   The results that I received were different then what I initially expected.
I interviewed twenty-two (22) men and forty-six (46) women.
