Communications

We communicate one with another in many ways each day; from verbal, to written, and even

non-verbal, communication is one aspect of life that no person can allow a day to pass without it. In

today’s world its vital to have good communication skills, whether it be in a family, social or work

setting.

What is communication and why is it so important? Effective communication requires using a

large range of skills, like most other skills it requires constant work and improvement.

Communication skills incorporate a variety of techniques of oral, written and non-verbal forms, and

this covers a range of areas, such as providing information, giving advice, writing a report and

resolving conflicts. It is very important to have good communication skills in order to overcome

difficult situations and improve our daily activities and affairs. Since everyone of us responds

differently, no one approach is more effective. It is important though that we express ourselves

accurately and in a way in which we will convey ourselves accurately.

Oral Communication

Oral communication is the spoken interaction between two or more people, this skill is important

in order to function successfully academically and professionally. Conversational speech, for many of

us comes naturally. However, effective communication skills are what is essential. For example; an

interview that is poorly conducted could have ramifications that affect many more people than just

yourself. “By becoming an effective communicator you will be able to conduct yourself in a variety

of personal, professional, and academic environments with confidence”. (2005 teaching teams).
