Managerial Jobs Are The Same In Both Large And Small Organisations

In every organisation, managers play a very important role to achieve organisational goals. A manager can be defined as a person who cooperates with and through other people in order to achieve organisational goals (Robbins, Bergman and Coulter, 2006, p.8). Every manager has different works, roles, and skills to cope with his responsibilities in different types of organisations and firms. Based on the sizes, organisations are divided into two types: large organisations and small organisations, which have different functions in each of them. A Small organisation is an independent small business firm which consists of 20 employees or less and commonly be consistent to revenues of $50 million or less. On the contrary, a large organisation is an independent large firm which consists of more than 20 workers and with revenues of more than $50 million (Smith III, Herbig, Milewicz and Golden, 1996). Managers who work either large or small organisation have the same functions of planning, organising, leading and controlling (Robbins et al., 2006, p.11), but the way they perform, their behaviour to manage and their specialised knowledge in certain field are different. This essay will clarify the different managerial jobs related to their roles and skills in each organisational size. Firstly, this essay will contrast the managerial activities in both large and small organisations. Then, the roles and skills in large and small organisations will be distinguished. Finally, this essay will diverse the important roles of managers in each organisational size.
