Me
For the past several years I have been greatly interested in photography and imaging. I enjoy searching for interesting images to capture and the development process of photography fascinates me. I have chosen a degree that will allow me to pursue my interest in greater depth. Having no formal training in photography, I decided to research into the main fields of study. I have read books on other areas such as film, digital imaging and visual communications, which have enabled me to understand what a degree course in photography may entail, but also confirmed my interest in the subject.
Work experience in a children's nursery enabled me to develop a number of important skills. Working with children between the ages of two and four years required patience and understanding. It also developed my creative and imaginative skills as I was set a task to devise a range of activities and games for the children.
More recently, working part time as a waitress ensured that I was able to work co-operatively as part of a team with a variety of different people. I also had to work independently which required me to use my own initiative. Such skills I believe will prove extremely useful on my photography degree course and within University life.
Furthermore, being elected as a member of the pupil council provided me with the opportunity to represent my peers in a responsible manner. I broadened my communication skills by speaking and listening in a large group. (This experience should enable me to communicate effectively in an academic environment whilst at University.)
Also as a member of the choir, I have been involved in a number of school productions including Grease' which I found extremely rewarding as it improved my self-confidence considerably. I have been a member of the school choir since first year and have taken part in the annual musical and vocal shows where I also assisted with the artwork used in the sets.
