Lyrical Analysis: The Meaning Behind the Words
Upon one's initial exposure to a new piece of music, one may develop certain conclusions about the subject of the music as portrayed through the lyrics. "In Your Eyes", written and recorded by Peter Gabriel in 1987, is one such piece of music.
When first reading the lyrics of "In Your Eyes", the reader may assume that Mr. Gabriel is writing from the inspiration of a woman whom he loves dearly. Several of the lyrics included in this song, such as "In your eyes, I am complete", may insinuate that the writer is reminiscing about his lover's eyes. As one continues to listen to, and analyze the lyrics of the song, a stronger purpose to the music may begin to be revealed.
