Medieval Science and its Influence on the Modern World
The spawn of a new age in history was marked by the inventions and innovations of a few select people throughout the medieval time period. Defined as the search for truth in all branches of knowledge, Science was a large and vital part to our history (Loyn, Pg 294). Medieval Science has impacted our very way of life. Without the ingenious ideas and principals presented during this time period, our modern day society wouldn't be nearly what it is today. Medieval Scholars, scientific theories, and Inventions are primarily the reason why our civilization is as advanced as it is today.
Throughout history, scholars and scientists were held in the highest regard. It was during this time that the written authority of some, overruled the experimental ideas of modern sciences (Nicole, 97). Scholars and scientists were generally very intelligent individuals who led serious lifestyles. Often curios of how things worked around them, scholars continued their education to pursue this ever-growing field. Because of this, they were often found in strange places. Hiding in caves, caverns, and sewers, they tried to keep a low profile with the public because during this time, the sciences were seen as inferior (Nicole, 97). From the beginning of the medieval times, transmission of classical scientific knowledge was passed along in the form of literature (Loyn, 294). The spread of the information occurred in many instances as cultural refugees fled with Greek scientific books and distributed them among the middle and lower classes of society (Nicole, 97). Mathematical knowledge was a necessity for anyone pursuing a life in the science field.
