Meditation

1 INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background
I first learned about meditation in 1972, my senior year in high school. I was brought up in a very religious Catholic home with five sisters and one brother. We never missed church on Sunday, and went to confession once a month whether we needed to or not. I never liked going to church and would rather be out playing ball. To me going to church was something I had to do. My mother passed away when I was a sophomore in High school. My mother was the glue that held our family together. When I turned eighteen, I stopped going to church and started searching for a different path to follow. I started reading eastern philosophy books like "Be Here Now" and "Path of the Masters". I was introduced to the teachings of Surat Shabd Yoga Master Kirpal Singh. It was at this point where I became a Vegetarian and learned to meditate.
I will explore what meditation is, a few types of meditations, and some misconceptions that exist about meditation.
