Helping the community helps to become a good citizen.
I am going to write my experience at a local community centre helping out at a fundraising event. I will further explain how it benefited me and my society. The purpose of this event was to raise money for charity and to provide resources for disabled students in the area. My aims of the activity were to run a stall at the event.
I planned my participation by getting in touch with the local community centre to contribute in their fundraising event which a found as an advert in the newspaper. I have discussed with the staff of the community centre my aim of doing so. They allowed me to take part in the Multicultural Event and I insisted on running the henna stall on their fundraising day.
At the Multicultural Evening my responsibilities were to set up a stall for Indian henna decoration which I put on for the people who came to the stall. Other actions that were taking place on the evening were Dancing, Singing and evening meal at a rate per person £10.00. There were other minor jobs like tidying up after event and counting up all the money raised at the stall after the event.
The main contributions were, paying for the costs of food, stage and tables and seats etc. These were the major responsibilities of the event, so were arranged by the staff members of the community centre. There were others like me who set up different stalls according to there culture e.g. at the Chinese stall there was origami, fans, parasol which you could buy and Chinese food. My contribution to the event went well together because many people were willing to come to the stall and children were very keen to put the henna on which brought their attention to the stall. I felt that what I put in was beneficial towards the activity because it raised the most money compared to the other stalls.
