Mickey Mantles Alcoholism
Mickey mantle was known for years to be a heavy drinker, but back in the 50's and 60's it wasn't that big of a deal. The main thing that people don't know that he was in to drugs too. He got his problem from his father and brother. Both of them had severe problems with drug and alcohol abuse. He was never offered any rehab and people don't think that he would have taken any.
Mickey Manuel didn't do that well in school and didn't even graduate from the college that he went to , but did get the same degree going to junior college. Before that he played he worked for an oil company. Then in 1977 his brother Billy was dingiest with Hodgkin's disease. Billys bout with surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation, not to mention his own alcohol, and drug abuse. Went this was happening with Billy all of Mickey's brothers were worrying about how they were like there father and wondering if they were going to get it.
After all the longs years and playing baseball and all the years of drinking and drug abuse. Mickey Mantle died at the age of 64 . He died from failure of the liver . He had liver cancer and was still drinking . He was diagnosed with liver cancer in 1995 . Mickey Mantle needed a liver transplant but the law says that if you have liver failure from alcohol that you are not eligible for a good liver but most people think that there is an acceptation if you are a famous person . The study says that 60 percent of people think that if you are a celebrity that you will get an organ no matter what. There is no true evidence that this is true or that Mantle got his liver for being a celebrity . Yes Mickey Mantle did get a liver and got the transplant August 13 ,1995 but died August 14 ,1995 Mickey Mantle passed away .
