Management Information System (MIS)
Management Information System is a planned system of collecting, processing, storing and disseminating data in the form of information needed to carry out the functions of management. MIS provide important tools supporting delivery and adding credibility to the organization.MIS is basically concerned with processing data into information, which is then communicated to the various departments in an organization for appropriate decision making. Management Information Systems (MIS) is the discipline covering the application of people, technologies, and procedures — to solve business problems. Management Information Systems are distinct from regular information systems in that they are used to analyze other information systems applied in operational activities in the organization.
General Functions of MIS:-
• Capture information and store it.
• Access stored information easily and manipulate it for your needs, your clients’ needs and your stakeholders needs.
• Control flow of information into, around and out of our systems.
• Maintaining total privacy of all the information of the organization.
• Manage resources.
• Produce reports for the organizations and also for outsiders, such as funders.
• Maintain records needed for quality control.
• Manage and track records of work, achievement and progression.
• Manage returns to funders and accreditation bodies.
• Record and track outcomes.
• Manage marketing information.
• And a host of other information related functions.
