The story "Miss. Brill" mainly describes an old woman's life. Miss. Brill is a complex character that has both positive and negative character traits. From the beginning to the end, the story shows how this old lady changed as a result of being attacked by others.
The impressive personality of Miss. Brill makes herself live happily. Miss. Brill is a courageous, observant, and imaginative old lady who creates a positive environment for herself. She is courageous because everyday she gets up early in the morning and goes to park to look around and be observant. She has a fur wrap that has a head and tail which she wears around her neck that symbolizes a peculiar confidence in herself. When she goes to the park she observes the environment and people, also makes her own play in her head. A good observer, she can notice every single incident or some small details seem significant. Such as "Wasn't the conductor wearing a new coat?" This reveals that Miss. Brill is a good observant. While she observes everything in the park, she also has a great imagination with regards to the environment; her creative thoughts about each object in the park makes her own life full and pleasant.
However, Miss. Brill is also an unrealistic, lonely and sensitive poor old lady when one considers her life. She is very unrealistic because she is accustomed to living in a fantasy world, that she creates for herself. In her imaginative world, there is no badness, only good things. This shows how unrealistic she is. Apparently, this also shows that she is shy and lonely. On the other hand, the fact that Miss. Brill has no real close friends and shows how isolated she is. The reason she is isolated from others because she is old, but she thinks of herself as a young woman still.
