Jabberwocky analysis on Politics in Art
The essay written by Barbara Kingsolver explains how art influences politics, but before the audience can interpret this, it is important they understand the authors political views. Most of this essay concentrates on the down sides of democracy and how it controls American society. The Structural format of this essay goes from how the author feels about democracy to how art has critical effect on politics. By having the first half of the essay talk about democracy and how bad it is, the author purposely does two things. One is that she shows the audience how she feels about democracy, and two is that by saying how bad democracy is she automatically has the audience thinking the way she wants them to think. That is, she uses the technique of structure in her essay to grasp the audience attention in a way in which they see why our political system is in some way corrupting. The way she attacks the essay in this structural form is smart because since politics is such a broad subject and people have different views, it’s smart to start by explain why democracy in the USA is not working.
Using most of the essay an opposing argument to US democracy, Barbara Kingsolver uses many examples in the essay to support her argument. The audience catches rhetorical transaction to start the essay where Barbara Kingsolver explains the experience which finally made her decide to leave the US. This is important because this catches the audience’s attention by use of imagery. Now the audience starts out with a picture of what author is trying to show. The following are all the reasons why the author believes the American government is anything but ideal. If the people don’t agree with leader than they need to shut up and not do anything about it.
