Muhammad
Muhammad was born in Mecca about the year 570A D This town is located in Saudi Arabia. Arabs, seized with superstitions and corruption, were submerged in idolatry and polytheism. The sacrosanct Kabah originally built by the prophet Abraham with his son Ishmael for monotheistic worship, was adorned with assorted idols. It was a period of Jahiliya (ignorance) a time when, according to Quran, "they were in flagrant error"(3:164) Muhammad's tribe, the Quraysh, was the custodian of the Kabah.
The mission of Muhammad was prophesied by both Abraham and Isa son of Maryam (Mary). According to Quran, the prophet Abraham made this supplication "Our Lord' And raise up in their midst a messenger born among them who shall recite your revelations and instruct them in Scriptures and wisdom and shall make them grow (2:129). Allah answered his prayer, and Muhammad came among the Arabs.
Muhammad's father died before he was born, His grandfather Al-Muttalib took the infant to the Kabah and named him Muhammad ("the praised one" ). His mother died when he was six years old. He was t looked after by his paternal grandfather, Abdul Al-Muttalib. After the death of Abdul Al-Muttalib his Uncle Abu Talib looked after him. Abu Talib loved and took better care of his nephew than of his own children. At about age ten, Muhammad became a herd boy, tending sheep around Mecca. When Muhammad was about twelve he accompanied his uncle Abu Talib on a trading trip to Syria.
Muhammad's uncle, Abu Talib was poor and had many mouths to feed. One day he heard that Khadejah, was hiring men of the Quraysh tribe to work for her in her trade. She used to hire men to bed and compete in the market on her behalf and rewarded them with a share of the profits.
