I'll never forget that moment as I sat on the old pier watching God's perfect symbol of life fall under the skyline. The once vibrant blues, yellows, purples and redsall spilled together to form black. Dark, depressing thoughts came to my mind as myworld was falling, just like the once magnificent sunset.
Deciding that I did not want to live any longer, I sat motionless contemplatinhow I would finalize my existence on this planet. Just as I was ready to leave for myjourney home, a boy my age with a guitar sat next to me. Observing that I was upset, he started singing the song that would save my life. "You look so tired and unhappy", he sang. "Such a pretty house and such a pretty garden" ... why would I want to die? Bawling at the beauty of the song that was hearing I started figuring out what was wrong with my life. The lyrics that he sang connected with how I was feeling. Contemplating suicide, I
decided that it was not worth it and gave life another chance. Listening to the true words of the artist and comparing them to my life, I felt connected to the world again.
Self connection is just one of the many examples in which music helps people exhibit their emotions. Many find relief in their favorite musical collection or musician. Just as one would take out their aggression in sports, others take out emotions through music. This is because the music triggers peoples emotions. It has the power to affect ones feelings as much as one's words can do. When listening to the beauty and imagery of a song, the mind starts to wander into territories that are otherwise uncomfortable. Even if they are very confused , the power of music helps sort their scattered brain. This is why after a long days work, many find themselves relaxing to their favorite CD's.
