CAN WE UNDERSTAND SOMETHING WE HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED?
No, one cannot understand something they have not experienced. One thing people gain from their lives is experience, even though they don't know they have gained it. This directly affects an individual and by countering certain situation, a valuable lesson is learned, whether it's a good one or a bad one.
As the old saying goes, you learn from your mistakes. As you make those errors, you also have learned something, which means you experience it. Even though a person may think he or she understands a situation, he or she may not have gone through it. Take me for instance. Last year, my soccer team was number one in the conference and there wasn't team in our league who could beat us. We were the only team that was undefeated and in our last game, we played against one of the worst team in our conference. All of us went out there thinking it was going to be easy, but we were wrong. Nobody on my team took the game serious and started playing around. One mistake lead to another and by half time, the score was 4 -0. After we had our little talk with the coach, we started to take the match seriously, but it was too late. They beat us 4-3. After that game we all learned something, never take a team for granted.
Someone can't truly understand how to deal with certain situations unless they've been through it. Experiences could be good or bad, but everyone can learn from it as they move along in life.
