Music's Influence In Communication
The next time you listen to your favorite song; ask yourself, "What does it tell me?"
It tells us music is an instrument for the development of the human mind and a tool for the educational of society. Throughout human history, music has been a part of the lives of people. Whether it took the form of a rhythmic drumbeat, melody or harmony it has always had a place in the lives of the people it represented. The lyrics usually told a story of some experience or way of life that existed during the time. Rhythm, melody and harmony also imposed various feelings that affirmed the experience that was told. Some of the most famous representations of this are in what we now know as the old testament of the Bible in the book of Psalms, which is but a collection of lyrics to songs performed by musicians from about 450 B.C. and before. With all of this, it is apparent that music has been assisting people in their education and influencing society for untold centuries.
As society influences music, music itself also influences society. When music ascribes such a self-perpetuating circle, it provides an indirect proof of the veracity of its role amongst a basic axiom of the way we live and exist. I am speaking of communication. Long ago, humans learned to communicate with each other. Furthermore, we are inclined to transmit our ideas and emotions through many means. One of the ways we use communication to bridge the between each other is through music. If we think of music serving as a bridge to educate us and express ourselves, we see the instrumental properties of music employed by the composers and the consumers of the art itself.
Experience itself provides education through feeling and emotions. Education is also accomplished through factual knowledge, real-life experiments and the assessment of cause and affect.
