What is Canada? For some people, it might have become their past, for others, their future; as for me, it is now, the present. Canada is an amazing country, and I am so grateful to be living here. Not only does Canada hold some of the most significant history in the world, but it also is a home to many heroes whom have made major accomplishments and contributions to many lives across Canada. To me, Terry Fox is one of Canada's greatest heroes who had a mission to change the lives of people around the world. Terry Fox has become an inspirational image for me due to his strong determination, willingness to help others, and love and hope for everyone.
Terry Fox's strength of will to complete the "Marathon of Hope" was his first attempt in making cancer history. When he started his run in Newfoundland, there was little, if any, enthusiasm and support, but Terry Fox never gave up; he just kept going. Soon after, people across the country become very supportive and welcoming. They generously gave their donations, and soon the money grew too. With his determination, Terry Fox took on a journey that Canadians will never forget.
While in hospital and diagnosed with cancer, Terry was so overcome by the suffering of other cancer patients, many of them young children that he decided to run across Canada to raise money for cancer research. His willingness to help others was one of his inspirations in running the "Marathon of Hope". His goal was to raise $1 for every Canadian, but unfortunately, he had to stop at Ontario because cancer was in his lungs. Still, today, Terry Fox is unforgotten and known for his desire to help others; this is why Terry Fox runs happen across Canada today.
