My Favorite Place In The House
Of all the rooms in our little house my favorite has to be the living room. It's small size lends to the
quaint feeling it brings upon entering. The way it is put together adds an old fashioned, antique charm
much like the parlor of an old house.
Although the furniture is less than ten years old, the overstuffed, cream and red checked sofa and loveseat
look as comfy and cozy as the furniture I remember in grandmas house. The camel back sofa and loveseat
sit adjacent to each other, separated only by a small path to move through the room. There is a dark,
wooden, mission style rocking chair in the opposite corner, its seat upholstered in brown leather, which
creaks whenever someone sits to rock. A large upright piano, built in 1916, sits on one end of the room. It
is garnished with many pictures of family and friends, much like a massive mantle of a fireplace.
Our creamy walls appear to be wallpapered, although they were actually painted with a layered,
feathering technique in cranberry red and taupe, which brings a rich texture to the plain white walls of the
past. One of the walls has two large windows each covered with an off white, floor length, lacey curtain
that allows the early morning sun to shine in. The sunlight shines through the cut glass of the large oval
shaped window on the front door, also along that wall,and leaves little prisms of light dancing on the walls
and dark brown pile carpeting that lay there for twenty- six years. The lighting from the three lamps in the
small space is also warm and inviting.
The living room is where I like to go to unwind from a tough day at work, curl up to read a book, or
