My Frog Kermit
As I'm sitting at my desk most nights doing homework or using my computer, I also
reach over and turn my pet Frog's lamp off. Kermit's lives in a five gallon tank with a big
log, leaves, and a watering hole. Kermit's light has to be kept on for 12 hours a day, he also
must be fed one large cricket a day or several small ones. Kermit is a funny character,
during the day you can rarely see him because he tends to hide underneath his big log. I
know he is just hiding out, because he always comes out when I turn his light off. After just
turning of his lights, I see Kermit crawl from underneath his big log. Last night I watched
Kermit for over an hour and I watched him slide his slippery tongue out and slide the
cricket straight into its tiny mouth, I just sat there and watched with amazement.
Kermit also changes color to fit his surroundings, he will change from a dark green
to blue, brown, and turquoise. It always depends on what he is standing on. The reasons
for his changing of color I found out is a defense mechanism. Though I don't think it is
necessary in his cage but it is fun to watch.
One thing that I enjoy the most is watching Kermit climb up the walls of his cage.
He has unique webbed sticky feet that allow him to stick on the glass. When you go to pick
him up with your finger he latches on and it is hard to get him off. Though it is extremely
hard to pick him up because he will jump from on side of the cage to the other in just one
single bound.
When Kermit is thirsty he will hop over to his water dish, sit in the center of it and
with a very fast motion open and shut his mouth repeatedly until he is finished. When he is
