College Nutrition Education
I. Introduction
College is a time of change and growth for many young Americans. "College students are an appropriate target audience for nutrition education because their dietary practices often are poor and their lives are in transition. " Students move away out of their homes and move into on-campus housing dormitories. Decisions around Meal plans, Grocery Shopping, Food work, and what to eat are confronted for the first time.
Meal Plans are a contentious issue, ranging from price fixed buffet style cafeterias to meals priced per entrée. Meal Plans at Colleges are priced for the Average eater and do not take into consideration the individual's personal preferences, sex or body type.
Grocery Shopping can become a daunting task alone. Food items are often packaged in normal and larger sizes, in which the larger, value size' is less expensive per unit than the normal sized food item. This leads individual college students to purchasing more food and over consumption. "Americans are programmed to eat more than they should and can't stop eating. "
Overwhelming many college students is Food Work. The process of buying food in advance, preparing balanced meals, cleaning dishes and storing leftovers can become a drain on the overburdened young America. Lunging into the responsibilities of student, adult and food preparer are all new roles to the average College Student.
The question every American has, and certainly every susceptible college student is What to eat?' 1% of Americans seek Nutrition advice from Nutritionists and 1% from Dieticians. Leaving 98% of Americans who are misinformed about Healthy eating habits, Confused over the conflicting information, and Consuming more food, more fats and more fictitious advertising than ever before.
