Will Men and Women’s Professional Sports Teams Ever Be Equal?

Turn on the television and put it on Entertainment and Sports Programming Network. What do you see? Odds are it is probably a man’s professional sport. Men’s sports are the most popular and most widely watched. Their sports have grown tremendously in size and popularity. But on the other hand are woman’s professional sports; which most people do not know as much about because do not hear as much about it. The size of most women teams now is the size that most man’s teams there when they first began. So that brings me to the question: Will men’s and women’s professional sports teams ever be equal?
Specifically I am talking about Major League Baseball and the National Pro Fastpitch, which I did not know existed until I wrote this paper. Major League Baseball players make an average of $2,824,752 per season, and have 30 teams with many leagues. While a National Pro Fastpitch player makes at most $5,000 per season, with 6 teams and only one league, which is a huge difference. Major League Baseball players play 162 games in 7 months; not including the World Series, All-Star Game, and the Home-Run Derby. While National Pro Fastpitch payers play 144 games in 3 months with the championship game at the end. Major League Baseball has almost every game nationally broadcast on many channels, while in 2005; the National Pro Fastpitch had only 6 regular season games broadcasted on a local channel.
But, on the other hand, most women who play sports in high school play to get a full-ride scholarship to college. And only continue playing softball until they are finished with school and are ready to start their lives with National Pro Fastpitch no where in their plans.
