This strong stand is important because those who drive after consuming alcohol or other drugs endanger the lives of others on the road as well as their own. In Michigan hundreds of people die each year from alcohol related crashes. These accidents are being prevented and reduced through the help of courts, law enforcement and the government.
While driving a person must be focused, concentrated, have control over motor skills, and is able to use their common sense to ensure safety for others on the road. If a person is under the influence of alcohol or other substances they may act differently then what is required for a person who is driving. The effects of alcohol and medication or substances on a person can be very dangerous and even deadly. Alcohol can have the same effect on a person no matter what form they consume it in. The same amount of alcohol can be found in a can of beer, wine, or whiskey. Drinking can affect a persons’ ability to drive, slow their concentration, cause visual problems and even slow their reaction time. Drivers especially between the ages of 16-20 have the most deadly results when they mix alcohol with driving.

A person is considered drunk or intoxicated when their bodily alcohol content is or is greater than .008. It is also illegal to not only have consumed but to have the presence of cocaine in the car while you are driving.
