Utopia every individuals dream. The notion of utopia varies between every individual of society as everyone has different wants and thoughts of a utopia
Does such a place exist on earth, it is really an imaginative idea where the concept is based on the presence of people, without people a perfect "paradise" is possible but with no people to run the paradise would be pointless to call it a utopia. This notion of a heavenly and earthly paradise has fascinated composers from the beginning of time. I am legend is a dystopian film text created in 2007 set in 2012.
The society created is one of vast isolation after a deadly virus that was initially made to cure cancer killed 90% of earth’s population. 9% became infected and degenerated into a primal, aggressive state that reacted painfully to UV light. Only 1% of humans were completely immune. They were either killed by infected or committed suicide due to isolation. 3 years later after the outbreak Robert Neville the protagonist believes he is last human left.
In our current society we value our health and a cure today, in this context scientists do everything they can to find a cure for cancer however they do not see the problems that may occur in finding a cure. Eventually when they find a cure it is so dangerous that it has caused a viral outbreak.
The composer’s value of this context is that he feels society is based on conflict between religion and science. Quotes by the protagonist such as “God didn’t do this, we did.” Explain that this society was created by humans trying to control too much.
The composer uses techniques to show the society created by using silent, panning shots to show how nature is rapidly reclaiming the landscape of the modern...
