Abstract
This paper addresses issues related to publishing an online newspaper over the Internet. Most Internet users are used to have free services, financing such a big system is the most overwhelming challenge to be faced. As the Internet has limited bandwidth and an online newspaper may contain bandwidth demanding multimedia content, this also creates problems.
Introduction
Today, the newspapers have deviated from being sources of “news”. Because of the increasing input prices everday, they are financing their works not through their news but through some marketing strategies. Some are acting like the classifieds papers, some are going on business by papers full of coupons. So people mostly use their newspapers as table clothes while they go out for a picnic after they have thorn off their coupons or have found the second hand auto to buy. And they get the news from the web when they are at their offices.
What should then be done to reach the reader must be a web-based newspaper, but this is hard to accomplish. A web-based newspaper should go beyond being a static webpage of a classical newspaper where the reader may reach the issue of today just as he reads his “paper” newspaper. The reader would like to have the last-minute news, would like to watch and listen rather than read, would like to comment on the essays, would like to search for a specific topic even for the older issues, would like to see his interests first, would like to download pages quickly and the last but not the least wouldn`t like to pay for all these services.
Here arise two crucial problems: Technical problems, how to build and manage such a system and financial problems, how to finance such a big systems.
