Skills, Abilities, Traits:
Lily’s approach to how she is leading the organization needs to be reviewed. Lily’s traits of being a top sales representative, intelligent, and aggressive are traits that should lead to her district being one of the best. She has the cognitive ability to run the business but there is something missing from Lily’s drive for leading her district to success as well as motivating her employees. There have also been rumors of cooking the books which would be highly unethical on her part which in turn is a reflection on me and the entire company.
Lily does not seem to be managing her sales reps at all. Her insensitivity to Muhammad, by telling an ethnic joke in his presence, may cause him to feel betrayed. This feeling of betrayal could lead him to lose respect for Lily as a manager.
Another cause for low sales figures could be the clash of personalities within the organization. For example, Leslie’s complaint of being kept after work and her precise schedule being messed up and desire for timely feedback (Sensing) conflicts with her personality preferences. Lily, being an Intuitive type, must understand and implement practices that work with the different personalities of her reps as well as understanding the best way to interact with them.
Role Perception
There are many problems with District IV at the current time. Lily’s lack of understanding of the role and responsibility as what a district sales manager is my fault. When I asked her to do the best she could, I should have clearly defined the word best. I do not believe that Lily understand that she is both a guide and mentor to her sales reps. There is currently a strained relationship between bosses and subordinates. Again, I should have been better in defining Lily’s role and perhaps provided better training. Ultimately, I am responsible for Lily and her employee’s performance.
