Organizational Functions Of Management

The biggest part of Starbucks is the retail end of things. Recently, Starbucks has had to lay off over 600 employees around the country and close several business locations, nationwide. However, the mainstream of things still seems to be doing well, in the retail end.
The way the Starbucks company has looked at organizational design over the years, is the most important thing will be customer based and have to do with the products of the company. According to Starbucks cuts 600 jobs (2008), “ This is the most visible expression of the Starbucks Spirit.” Starbucks creates an employment climate that encourages motivation and customer focused partners, that will show and make strengths of each of the individual's talents. Starbucks has always tried to make sure that individual skills were matched with company needs, while making sure that a continual learning environment, was provided. The positions of the retail stores include:
Barista – which is an hourly partner
Shift Supervisors
Assistant Store Managers
Store Managers
District Managers
Regional Directors
All of the partners of Starbucks, always tour the coffee world, and spend time learning about all the history of the Starbucks core development program. All of the members of a store management team, will participate in a Retail Management Training Program. “The program”, according to Starbucks cuts 600 jobs (2008), “will consist of leadership development, customer service, effective management practices, community relations, hiring/interviewing, visual merchandising equipment and facilities management.” All of the qualified candidates at the end of the training, will obtain the ability to recruit, coach and develop a proven strength for a team of partners.
