Individual /Organization
Individual needs are not met by the organization. Employees do not have a sense of direction and currently morale is low amongst the employees. The employees need a clear vision and set of directions from the company and they are not receiving that. The article stated that most of the promotions have been from the manufacturing department; I feel as though this sets individual goals that are not aligned with company goals. This is naturally putting the different departments at odds with one another.
Individual/ Task
The individuals do have the ability to meet the tasks, but the organization is not conducive to product development. The company is struggling because of changes that have been made by Guido Spichty involving MEPD. When the headquarters was moved, was when the conflict started as well as the underperformance. The team has been able to handle their tasks in the past, so it is clear that they have the skill that is needed.
Problems in the case: Change in the business environment surrounding MPED, and the change in management. And the recommendation is to change them both.
Task / Organization
From reading the Harvard case study one can quickly deduce that the organizational arrangements are lacking in structure that is conducive to meeting organizational goals and tasks at hand. In the case the plants were described as the profit centers for the organization, but the way they generated growth was through creating innovative products for their consumers. The problem is that there are no new products being generated which is hurting the companies profit goals. The organization also set unattainable goals for MEPD to meet concerning business growth and put unnecessary stress on employees during their annual budgeting process.
