The Skill of Persuasion

The power of persuasion is a powerful and magnetic skill to have. Some people have honed this skill as they grow older, and others are born with it. Some people will never master this skill, but in my opinion, we should all understand and learn to become more proficient in this area. Persuasion is defined as the act of influencing the mind by arguments or reasons offered, or by anything that moves the mind or passions, or inclines the will to a determination (Define.com).

Everything you desire or will desire in life comes from the ability to motivate, influence and potentially persuade others. Even as young children, we quickly realize without anyone teaching us, that there are certain behaviors that will help us get our way. It may be crying, pouting, throwing a tantrum or any type of behavior that helps us to manipulate or get the attention of others. We learn early in life which buttons to push to get our desires met.

We have all met someone whom we have considered charming and very likeable. These people have learned how to use their personable characteristics in order to persuade others. Some are naturally charming and have magnetic personalities. These are the people who we find ourselves going out of our way for. We appeal to their charm, and we may readily give in and bend to their request. Whether they are sincere or insincere in their intentions is usually a secret that only they will know. There are also people who may seek to exhibit a type of persuasion. However, their false intentions may show, and the results that they intend to get, may not manifest. We often label these individuals as slick, phony and dishonest, and often times they are unaware that this is apparent.
